For a family or couple, Saudi accommodation decisions become clearer when you separate sleeping space, privacy and facility access. A large room, an apartment and a desert villa can each be attractive, but they solve different needs. The property's category name and current operating notice matter more than a general destination photograph.
We checked the Ascott and Banyan Tree examples on 15 October 2026. They illustrate specific room and facility differences, not a personal stay or a legal rule for all hotels. Confirm your full party, dates, requested privacy and booking conditions directly with the selected property.
Match a city apartment or desert stay to the trip
| Stay type | Family question | Couple question |
|---|---|---|
| City hotel | Are the beds and daily access suitable? | Does the location suit the planned evenings? |
| Serviced apartment | Are there separate sleeping and living spaces? | Will the kitchen or longer-stay facilities be used? |
| Desert villa | How are outdoor areas and water accessed? | What privacy and pool category are actually booked? |
| Two linked rooms | Is the internal connection confirmed? | Do both rooms suit the travelers equally? |
Begin with where you expect to spend the day. A city base should make the practical journeys manageable, including meals and returning with children. A desert stay should leave time to use the property, rather than fitting between a late arrival and an early departure for another region.
List every guest and age, then assign a sleeping place to each person. An occupancy icon is not a floor plan. Ask whether an extra guest shares existing bedding, uses a sofa bed or requires a paid addition. For two couples, compare the second bedroom's arrangement instead of assuming it matches the main suite.
Decide what privacy means for you. It could mean separate bedrooms, a screened outdoor area, a pool used only by your party or a quiet dining space. Those are distinct requests. Use concrete terms with the hotel so its answer can be checked against the product you are buying.
Read Ascott's apartment capacity and pool arrangements separately
Ascott Rafal Olaya Riyadh lists accommodation from studios to two-bedroom apartments, with kitchens. Its Two-Bedroom Executive is shown as 121 m² with capacity for five. Confirm the beds, age combinations and any extra-person or meal charges for that capacity rather than assuming five identical sleeping places are included. [1]
The property describes two outdoor pools, including a ladies-only pool on the 27th floor. That information does not establish that every traveler can swim together in every pool. Ask which pool your party can use, its current hours and the rules for children and accompanying adults. [1]
For a family, the useful apartment comparison is practical: whether adults can remain in a living area after bedtime, whether meals can be prepared as intended and whether the actual kitchen equipment meets your needs. Request details for the selected category rather than applying a photograph of another apartment.
For a couple, a larger apartment may be useful on a longer city stay, but space alone does not make the location suitable. Compare the journeys you expect to take and the property services you will use. If your plans involve full days out, a different room size or base may offer better value for the same total.
Book the actual AlUla villa category and outdoor space
Banyan Tree AlUla's accommodation list distinguishes a 77 m² Dune One-Bedroom Villa from a separate one-bedroom pool-villa category. Its Two-Bedroom Pool Villa is listed as 138 m² for four, with king and twin bedding. Do not infer a private pool for every villa from general marketing language. [2]
If a pool is essential, the confirmation should name the pool category. Then ask whether the outdoor area is screened as you need, how staff access works and whether neighboring sightlines affect your expectations. A pool used by one booking is not automatically invisible from every surrounding point.
For a family, request the path from the bedrooms to the pool, the door arrangements and any barriers. If an outdoor feature requires continuous adult attention, decide whether it suits the holiday you want. A premium category is not inherently the most practical category for every child's age.
For two couples, check the king-and-twin configuration and whether an alternative is possible. Ask about bathroom access and living space as well as the advertised total area. A family-oriented two-bedroom villa can be comfortable, but it should not be booked on an assumption of two equivalent principal bedrooms.
Keep transfer arrangements separate from the villa description. Confirm the arrival point, pickup time, luggage capacity and included charge with the hotel or transport provider. A remote-feeling setting can be part of the appeal, but the actual arrival and departure still need a named, confirmed service.
Use current facility notices before choosing from photographs
That notice concerns the named Rock Pool. It should not be interpreted as a statement that every villa pool is closed, or as permission to swim because photographs remain online. Ask the hotel about the exact facility attached to your booking and obtain a current answer before paying for a stay centered on swimming.
For other facilities, ask about the stay dates rather than general opening patterns. A spa, gym or children's space may have separate age, booking or accompaniment rules. If two adults want to use a facility together, confirm that the arrangement is available instead of assuming it from the presence of two places in the room.
If a feature is essential, make its current status part of the comparison while cancellation remains possible. Do not treat an undated gallery as an operating schedule. Save the dated answer with the reservation, and review the conditions for changing the booking if the feature later becomes unavailable.
Compare privacy, meals and the full household price
| Booking detail | What to obtain | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Guests and beds | Ages, bed arrangement and total supplements | Capacity mistaken for included bedding |
| Outdoor space | Private use, access and any screening | A villa label mistaken for complete seclusion |
| Facilities | Eligible users, child rules and current operation | A pool image mistaken for permission to swim |
| Full stay cost | Meals, transport, taxes and required additions | Comparing incomplete nightly prices |
Ask what breakfast includes for every guest, especially when a room is sold with an extra person or children. A rate with two breakfasts may not cover a larger accepted occupancy. For a villa stay, check the dining arrangements you will actually use and whether transport is needed for meals outside the property.
Confirm the property's check-in requirements for all travelers, using the actual booking and guest ages. We do not infer a national documentation rule from one hotel's practice or provide a blanket assurance about every couple's circumstances. Ask a precise question if a specific identification or reservation issue affects your stay.
Read payment and cancellation terms for the selected rate and seller. An attractive prepaid offer can be unsuitable while essential room or facility questions remain unanswered. A request for early check-in, a celebration benefit or a room position should be recorded separately from inclusions the hotel has confirmed.
Turn the requirements into a clear reservation
- State the dates, full party and each child's age.
- Name the desired category and the sleeping arrangement.
- Describe the privacy and pool access that matter to you.
- Confirm current facility operation, meals and transport.
- Save the total price and accepted conditions before payment.
For a family, a useful enquiry might ask for two bedrooms, four separate sleeping places and a clear explanation of pool access. For a couple, it might ask whether the selected pool villa provides the outdoor privacy they want. Specific questions reduce the chance of receiving a generic reply that leaves the main decision unresolved.
If the property cannot confirm a condition that determines the booking, compare another category or plan. Keep enough time at the selected base to enjoy the space you have chosen, and reconfirm a changed arrival promptly. The strongest choice is a room whose actual arrangement and current facilities fit your travelers.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Does every Banyan Tree AlUla villa have a private pool?
The accommodation list separates a one-bedroom villa from a pool-villa category. Confirm the exact category in your reservation. [2]
Can guests currently swim in the AlUla Rock Pool?
The facilities page stated that swimming was temporarily not permitted when checked on 15 October 2026, with guest access for photography only. Recheck before booking; no reopening date was published in that notice. [3]
Does a hotel pool mean the whole family can use it together?
No universal arrangement is established. Ascott's example includes a ladies-only pool. Ask about the specific pool, child rules and permitted companions for your stay. [1]
