A ferry ticket solves the journey across the water, but it does not solve the hours between hotel checkout and boarding. Split and Dubrovnik trips often need a separate plan for stored luggage, the correct passenger departure point and the final walk to accommodation. Those details matter most when you are carrying several cases or traveling with children.
We checked the station and ferry sources on 15 October 2026. The examples below identify what their published pages establish and what still needs an answer. A stored bag is not checked onto a ferry, and a port authority's address is not automatically the boarding point on your ticket.
Map three handovers before choosing a storage location
| Stage | Confirm with | Information you need |
|---|---|---|
| Shore storage | Counter or hotel | Door, bag count, hours and receipt |
| Boarding | Your ferry operator | Correct port, departure point and arrival deadline |
| Accommodation arrival | Hotel or host | Vehicle access, steps and check-in arrangement |
| Change or cancellation | Each separate provider | What happens to the bags and booking |
Start with the exact destination printed on your sailing. For an island stay, a ticket to one port should not be treated as arrival at every town on that island. If your accommodation is elsewhere, confirm the onward transfer and its baggage capacity before deciding how many cases to bring.
Keep your collection time independent of a sightseeing estimate. A delayed lunch or a longer walk through town must not use up the time needed to retrieve bags and reach boarding. Write the storage door and sailing departure point as two distinct map locations, even if both are described as near the harbor.
For Dubrovnik, distinguish the port district from an Old Town meeting point on an excursion. Similar references to a boat or harbor do not prove that departures share a location. Use the actual operator's confirmation rather than following another company's queue or the address of a general tourism office.
Use Dubrovnik's current hourly storage tariff
Libertas' Dubrovnik bus station lists its luggage service at Obala Pape Ivana Pavla II 44A, with storage hours of 06:30–22:00. Its price list effective 1 October 2026 charges EUR 1 per bag for each started hour. The station also states a EUR 66.36 liability limit. These are provider terms, not a broad insurance promise. [2] [3]
For two bags stored for two hours and twenty minutes, each bag enters a third billing hour: 2 × 3 × EUR 1 = EUR 6. That is a calculated example under the published rule. Confirm acceptance of your actual pieces and the intended return time; do not assume bulky sports equipment is treated identically.
The general station contact page includes staff breaks as well as a separate storage-hours line. Ask whether any interruption affects handover or collection on your day. Plan around the storage desk's answer instead of assuming that every station service operates identically throughout the published building hours. [2]
Keep the claim receipt somewhere you can reach without opening a stored bag. If you expect a different traveler to collect the cases, ask the desk what authorization is required. At pickup, count all pieces before returning to the port or bus platform, and leave enough time to address a mismatch.
Radical Storage’s Dubrovnik city listings, checked separately on 19 October 2026, offer another way to compare local partner locations. They are separate from the bus-station service above. Match the chosen address and collection hours to your route; an Old Town stop and a Gruž departure require different plans. [6]
Confirm Split's service before budgeting its price
Split Bus Station's general business conditions explicitly provide for luggage storage under its operating rules and price list. The retrieved conditions do not establish a complete current storage tariff or collection schedule. Ask the station for those details rather than copying a price from an undated travel account. [1]
The useful questions are specific: how much for your number and type of bags, how the time is counted, when the desk closes and whether collection is possible during any break. Also establish whether storage can be reserved or is accepted only when space is available. A listed service does not guarantee capacity.
If your hotel will hold the bags, compare the return there with the walk from a station counter to your sailing. Keeping bags with the hotel can be sensible when checkout and collection follow the same route. It can be inefficient when the property is well away from the passenger departure point.
Do not buy an unsuitable storage arrangement just because it is close to a station name. Check the actual entrance with your luggage and your own access needs. An extra set of steps, a difficult crossing or a long detour may outweigh a small price difference, particularly when traveling as a family.
Radical Storage’s Split listings, checked separately on 19 October 2026, let you compare city partner locations with station or hotel custody. Use the selected location’s map and hours to work out the return to boarding. A city listing does not establish storage inside your ferry terminal or availability for your date. [5]
Keep ferry luggage rules separate from left luggage
Krilo's published terms distinguish hand luggage and checked luggage, listing a free checked allowance up to 23 kg per passenger and possible charges above the stated limits. They also say the Croatian version governs over the informational English version. Check the terms attached to your actual sailing and operator. [4]
A ferry baggage allowance tells you what the carrier accepts for transport. It does not include several hours of shore storage before boarding or custody after you leave the vessel. Likewise, a storage receipt from the bus station does not check the suitcase through to your island accommodation.
Do not transfer one carrier's limits to another company with a similar name. Compare the name on your ticket with the luggage policy, especially for fast passenger services and larger ferries. Describe bicycles, sports equipment and unusually shaped cases separately, and obtain an answer before relying on a particular sailing.
Pack what you need during the crossing in a small accessible bag. Follow the crew's instructions about where larger cases belong and keep aisles clear. When arriving, identify your own bag rather than taking a similar-looking case from a shared area. A recognizable tag and an exterior photograph can help.
Plan the final hotel approach and the return route
| Accommodation question | Useful answer | Effect on the luggage plan |
|---|---|---|
| Where can a vehicle stop? | Named pickup or drop-off point | Shows the remaining walking distance |
| Are there steps? | Steps to entrance and room, lift availability | Determines whether large cases are practical |
| When can bags arrive? | Agreed custody and check-in hours | Separates luggage handover from room readiness |
| Is assistance arranged? | Named person, service and charge | Avoids assuming a porter is included |
For an apartment in a historic center, ask about the entire approach, not only the building's floor number. A first-floor room may still follow a stepped street or an entrance staircase. Send the host a practical question about your stroller or mobility needs, rather than asking only whether the area is convenient.
For a late arrival, confirm how you obtain keys and what happens if the sailing is delayed. Keep the host's contact available offline. If reception closes, a luggage-storage booking elsewhere will not solve access to the room; these need separate arrangements and a fallback you understand before departing.
On the return journey, repeat the exercise in reverse. An early sailing may precede the opening of a nearby storage desk, while a late sailing may leave a gap after checkout. Sometimes carrying fewer pieces or reserving another night is the more workable option. Compare the actual total instead of treating storage as the automatic answer.
Keep a fallback for a disrupted sailing
- Save the sailing confirmation, storage receipt and host contact separately.
- Check the current departure information with the operator.
- Collect within the agreed storage hours, even if the sailing changes.
- Arrange any new custody or overnight stay explicitly.
- Retain evidence if you need to raise a claim with a provider.
A ferry cancellation does not automatically extend a bus-station storage booking. Contact the counter while it is open and decide whether to collect, pay for an accepted extension or move the bags to confirmed accommodation. Do not assume that the next sailing and the next storage opening will fit together.
Use current operator notices for the actual sailing, including its port and time. This article does not establish live berth assignments, weather suitability or replacement transport. Keeping those uncertainties separate from the published storage tariff makes the plan easier to adjust without losing track of your belongings.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
How is Dubrovnik's bus-station storage calculated?
The current list charges EUR 1 per bag per started hour. A partial extra hour counts in the calculation; confirm the acceptance and collection arrangements for your pieces. [3]
Does a ferry ticket include storage before boarding?
Do not assume so. The carrier's luggage allowance concerns transport, while shore storage is a separate service with its own hours and receipt. [4]
Can I rely on an old price for Split storage?
Use the current station price list or a direct answer. Its general conditions confirm the service but the retrieved text does not provide a complete current tariff and schedule. [1]
