Ramadan changes the rhythm of a visit, including when people eat, gather, work and worship. A future trip can require more planning around meals and opening hours than the same itinerary at another time of year. It also calls for respect for a month that has religious significance for the people around you.
This guide is based on official tourism, visa and travel-advice information checked on 18 October 2026. It does not recommend travelling during the current regional security disruption. Confirmed 2027 Ramadan dates, 2027 attraction hours, festival programmes and date-specific accommodation or transport availability were not verified.
Put the travel decision before the seasonal itinerary
The current Australian advice says to defer travel, including religious travel. The UK warning covers the whole country at either all-travel or all-but-essential level and warns that travelling against its advice can affect insurance. A valid visa, an advertised event or a hotel taking reservations does not establish that a leisure trip is advisable. [2] [1]
For future planning, keep a list of the places and experiences that interest you without converting it immediately into non-refundable bookings. Reassess the official advice relevant to your nationality and residence, the airline's operation and your insurance conditions before committing. Regional security can change independently of the Ramadan calendar.
If you are already in Saudi Arabia, follow the current instructions of local authorities and your government's travel advice. Reconfirm transport with the provider before setting off for an airport or long transfer. The seasonal suggestions in this article are not instructions to travel through a disruption or to disregard an official warning.
Use the right year and Saudi confirmation
FCDO's guidance records Ramadan in Saudi Arabia beginning on 18 February 2026 and lasting 30 days. That is a historical 2026 reference, not the timetable for a future year. We have not verified an official Saudi confirmation of the 2027 dates. Do not copy a past year's event calendar or a predicted date into a fixed booking as though it were final. [3]
| Calendar item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Previous Ramadan dates | Background only; the dates change between Gregorian years |
| Predicted future dates | A planning window until official confirmation |
| Saudi announcement | Check the confirmed national dates for the relevant year |
| Venue or transport programme | Check separately for the actual service and day |
Ramadan, the Eid holiday that follows it and the Hajj period are not interchangeable. A venue can change its hours more than once across those periods. If your visit spans a transition, ask for both schedules. Put the date of the answer beside the booking so you can identify whether a later update supersedes it.
Arrange daytime meals privately and clearly
FCDO advises visitors not to eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public during Ramadan daytime, including inside a car. It notes that hotels or restaurants serving food during fasting hours may use separate arrangements such as screens. Ask your accommodation exactly where and when meals and drinks can be taken rather than assuming a hotel restaurant follows its normal schedule. [3]
Before a future booking, describe your party's needs: breakfast timing, children, dietary restrictions and any medically necessary meal routine. Ask about room service, private dining arrangements and the actual service hours. Do not infer that food will be available simply because breakfast is included in the rate. Equally, do not assume that every property closes all food service.
- Ask where daytime food and drink service is provided and who can use it.
- Confirm whether breakfast, an evening meal or another service is included in the selected rate.
- Check whether a packed meal or room-service order needs advance notice.
- Plan water and meals around permitted private arrangements before a long outing.
If a health need affects eating or medication timing, discuss the personal medical plan with your clinician and the practical arrangements with your host. Do not change prescribed treatment merely to fit a sightseeing schedule. The hotel can explain its facilities; it cannot replace individual medical advice.
Build the day from confirmed opening hours
Ask each attraction for its Ramadan hours, last admission and any closure around prayers or private events. A general map listing may not show a seasonal change. If you buy a timed ticket, use the time printed for that specific date and check whether entry and transport must be arranged separately.
| Part of a future day | Planning task |
|---|---|
| Morning | Use only confirmed opening times and suitable meal arrangements |
| Afternoon | Leave room for rest, hotel services and a flexible return |
| Around the evening meal | Avoid a tight connection to a reserved dinner |
| Later evening | Check the venue's closing time and a realistic journey back |
Evening programmes can make a late start attractive, but the next morning's flight or transfer may still require an early departure. Do not fill both ends of every day. Choose one principal outing and one confirmed evening plan, then add optional stops only if the hours and energy allow. For families, a rest period can be more valuable than another timed attraction.
Check transport in the same way as the venue. Ask the provider about the specific pickup, waiting policy and latest return, rather than assuming that an event's advertised closing time guarantees a convenient ride afterwards.
Join evening meals with the host's guidance
Iftar is the meal that breaks the daily fast, while suhoor is the meal taken before dawn. When a future hotel or restaurant advertises either, ask what the booking includes, when guests should arrive and whether the meal is a buffet, set menu or another format. A seasonal label does not establish the price, dietary suitability or an unrestricted length of stay.
If invited to a private or community meal, follow the host's directions about seating, serving and when to begin. Ask before photographing people, especially in a setting involving worship or a family gathering. A friendly invitation is not automatic permission to publish an identifiable person's photograph or record a religious moment.
For a paid meal, confirm the total for every adult and child, cancellation terms and the late-arrival policy. No Ramadan dining price or future-year restaurant availability was verified for this article. Keep any special dietary confirmation with the reservation, and avoid using an assumed complimentary hotel meal as the only food plan for the evening.
Respect public conduct and religious access
The Saudi eVisa portal's public-decorum guidance calls for modest dress and respect for public behaviour. Choose clothing appropriate to the setting and follow additional requirements at religious or cultural sites. FCDO's Ramadan section also advises avoiding loud music, dancing and swearing in public and following local guidance. [4] [3]
Religious access must be checked independently of a sightseeing itinerary. The official eVisa terms state that non-Muslims may not enter the Holy Mosque and its premises in Makkah or the Prophet's Mosque and its premises in Madinah. Do not treat a tourist visa as permission to enter every religious area. Check the wider route and current access conditions before arranging a visit. [6]
The official tourist-visa portal describes tourism and Umrah among permitted purposes, excluding Hajj. That does not replace the current religious-visit permits, booking requirements or seasonal entry restrictions. If Umrah is the purpose of a future journey, use the official process for that journey rather than adapting a general cultural sightseeing plan. [5]
Make future bookings in a useful order
- Reassess official travel warnings and whether the trip should proceed.
- Confirm the relevant year's Saudi dates and your entry or religious-visit requirements.
- Choose accommodation that can explain meals and services for your party.
- Check individual attraction, dining and transport schedules for the intended dates.
- Compare cancellation deadlines and retain written answers for essential arrangements.
A suitable future itinerary should remain comfortable if one evening event is cancelled or a venue opens later than expected. Choose a base with practical access to the activities you have actually confirmed, and avoid changing hotels solely to follow an unannounced programme. Recheck the arrangements before the first non-refundable deadline and again close to travel.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Should I book a leisure trip to Saudi Arabia now?
The official warnings checked on 18 October 2026 support postponing discretionary travel. Reassess current advice, flight operation and insurance before making a future booking; Ramadan planning does not override those warnings.
Can non-Muslim visitors eat during the day?
Arrange food and drink through permitted private facilities and ask the hotel how it handles daytime service. The public-behaviour guidance applies to visitors too; do not assume a car is a private exception.
Are the 2027 Ramadan opening hours confirmed here?
No. We have not verified official 2027 dates or venue schedules. Confirm the year, national announcement and each facility's actual hours before committing to timed or non-refundable plans.
