This guide is for travelers who have already established that the electronic route fits their visit. The separate Türkiye entry-requirements guide covers the choice between visa exemption, an e-Visa and a consular application. Do not pay for an application merely because a search advertisement offers one for your nationality.
We checked the live public portal, its FAQ, a nationality eligibility search and the registration screen on October 11, 2026. The current homepage describes a profile, file-upload, payment and download process. We did not create an applicant account, upload a passport or make a payment; instructions beyond the public screens below are attributed to official guidance. [1] [2]
Confirm that the electronic route fits your passport
Use the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' country-by-country entry information first. Ordinary US, Canadian and Australian passport holders and British citizens traveling for qualifying short tourist visits are currently visa-exempt for up to 90 days in a 180-day period. Different passport categories and purposes can change the route. An e-Visa is for tourism or trade; work and study require the appropriate consular procedure. [3]
The portal's general FAQ still contains country lists that do not align with the ministry's nationality information. For example, Australia appears in the generic e-Visa list despite the ministry's visa exemption. Use the nationality-specific ministry entry and the live eligibility check together; if they conflict for your circumstances, ask the relevant Turkish mission before paying. [2] [3]
- Open the official e-Visa portal from the ministry's link or enter evisa.gov.tr directly.
- In the public eligibility tool, choose E-Visa, your nationality and the actual travel-document type.
- Read the result and any conditions. Do not substitute ordinary passport for another document just to obtain an eligible result.
- Continue to Login / Register only if the route fits your documents and purpose.
Our public check using South Africa and Ordinary Passport returned an eligible-to-apply message and a Login / Register button. That verifies this public route for that combination on the check date. It does not establish your permitted stay, approve an individual application or make every passport type eligible. [1]
Recognize the official portal and its current provider
The current portal identifies DTV as its service provider. A March 25, 2026 notice from Türkiye's Consulate General in Cape Town also directs South African ordinary passport holders through evisa.gov.tr and explains a redirect to dtvgroup.com.tr. A DTV redirect reached through this official route is therefore not, by itself, evidence of a fraudulent site. Start from the government link each time you need to establish the route. [1] [4]
Keep the application tab separate from travel-agency quotations and sponsored search results. Check the complete address before entering identity or card details, and keep your application reference privately. A copied logo, a reassuring page title or a high search position does not tell you who operates a form.
If a page remains blank or repeatedly returns to a landing page, stop entering information and reopen the government link later. Save the exact error text and the stage where it occurred. Do not respond to a loading problem by handing your passport to an unrelated site promising to bypass the official system.
Prepare identity details and supporting documents
The public registration screen asks for given names, surname, birth date, nationality, gender, email, password and verification. Have the passport you will actually carry beside you. Use an email account you can access during travel, and check spelling and date order before continuing. The FAQ places a middle name after the first name in the given-names field. [5] [2]
| Prepare | Check before continuing | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Travel document | Names, document type, number and expiry against the original | Copying an old booking profile without checking |
| Arrival plan | The calendar date you expect to enter Türkiye | Using the date the flight leaves your home country |
| Supporting permission, if required | The exact visa or residence-permit condition for your nationality | Assuming every foreign electronic visa qualifies |
| Requested files | Readability, completeness and the portal's displayed file specifications | Guessing an upload format from an old guide |
| Payment and insurance | The final itemized amount and applicable terms | Budgeting only a headline visa fee |
The general passport rule is expiry at least 60 days beyond the permitted duration of stay, with specified exemptions. The ministry separately recommends six months of remaining validity from arrival. Those are different statements. Its example for a 30-day permission is 30 plus 60, or 90 days of passport validity at entry; do not use your shorter holiday length to reduce the official requirement. [6]
If eligibility depends on a supporting visa or residence permit, inspect its category and expiry before applying. The FAQ requires the supporting permission to remain valid on entry and says another country's e-Visa is not accepted as a supporting document. For a digital residence status or unusual document, obtain nationality-specific guidance instead of treating a screenshot as automatically sufficient. [2]
Separate arrival date, validity and permitted stay
The FAQ explains that validity starts on the date selected in the application and entry can occur within that validity period. The window in which the visa can be used, the number of permitted entries and the maximum stay are separate conditions. Read all three on the result and issued document; there is no universal duration that this guide can assign to every applicant. [2]
As a planning example, a flight leaving home on November 2 might land in Türkiye on November 3. Check the destination's local arrival date on the itinerary before choosing a date. An overnight stop outside Türkiye can change that date again. This is a date-checking example, not a prediction of what validity the portal will grant.
Build a small margin into the application schedule. The FAQ recommends applying at least 48 hours before departure; that is advice, not a guaranteed processing time or a promise that every problem can be resolved within two days. Allow more time when you need supporting documents or consular clarification. [2]
If plans change, first compare the new entry date with the existing validity window and your remaining permitted stay. A change that still fits the document does not mean its printed dates must be edited. If you need different visa dates, the FAQ says date amendments are unavailable and another e-Visa is required. [2]
Review the total before paying and save the issued document
The homepage presents this sequence: create a profile, upload files, make payment and download the e-Visa. Treat each as a checkpoint. Registration or a payment receipt alone does not establish that a visa has been issued. Keep the application reference, payment record and issued document together so you can identify the relevant stage if you need help. [1]
The visa fee varies with nationality and travel-document type, and the FAQ also identifies a service fee. Review the actual checkout rather than relying on a fixed price from an older guide. Its payment help mentions Mastercard, Visa or UnionPay, international transactions and 3-D Secure; availability at your live checkout controls which payment method you can use. [2]
Insurance can affect the total. The Cape Town consulate's March 2026 notice says applicants using the described South African e-Visa route must obtain travel insurance through the website and pay insurance fees. Check how this applies to your own application. Do not assume an existing policy removes a portal requirement, or extend this particular notice into a claim about all visa-exempt visitors. [4]
- Review the traveler, document number, dates, currency and each charge before authorizing payment.
- If payment fails, check the bank's international-payment and authentication settings, then use the official support route if needed.
- Read any deadline shown in your current confirmation email; do not assume an abandoned application stays payable indefinitely.
- After successful completion, download the e-Visa and keep an offline copy accessible with your passport.
The FAQ describes a download link at successful completion and by email. Open the actual document and check it while there is still time to address a mismatch. For several travelers, keep a clearly named document for each person; an email containing one visa does not cover the whole party. [2]
Handle mistakes through the correct official channel
| Problem | Next action | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Incorrect identity or passport information | Follow the FAQ's fresh-application instruction; ask support if the account workflow is unclear | That handwriting a correction makes the visa valid |
| Travel outside the issued validity | Check the new dates and obtain the appropriate new permission | That changing a flight amends the visa |
| Payment charged but no usable document | Check account and email, retain the reference, then contact portal support | That paying again is the first solution |
| System says the application cannot be processed | Contact the relevant Turkish embassy or consulate about the proper route | That airport staff can issue the same permission on arrival |
Use Contact within the portal for an electronic-application problem. Include the stage, error wording and relevant reference through the official channel; avoid posting passport scans or card information publicly. A consular visa application has a different owner: ask the mission handling that case rather than the e-Visa help desk.
The FAQ says unused e-Visas are not refundable and that a document whose details do not match the passport is invalid. Check before paying and again after downloading. Finally, an e-Visa does not guarantee admission: border authorities still make the entry decision. Keep the documents supporting your eligibility available for the journey. [2]
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Do I enter the date I leave home or arrive in Türkiye?
Check the local date on which you expect to enter Türkiye. A flight departing the previous evening may arrive the next day. Then read the validity and permitted-stay conditions shown for your actual application.
Can I correct a passport number on an issued e-Visa?
The official FAQ directs applicants with incorrect information to a fresh application and says a passport mismatch makes the visa invalid. Do not alter the downloaded document yourself.
Does a redirect to DTV mean the application website is unofficial?
No. The current government portal identifies DTV as its provider, and the Cape Town consulate explicitly describes that redirect. Establish the route through evisa.gov.tr or the Turkish ministry's own link before supplying information.
