Saudi Arabia Tourist Visa: Eligibility, Application and Entry Checks
Use the official passport eligibility route, distinguish visa validity from permitted stay, and check documents, insurance and the limits of tourist permission.

Start with the official tourism visa route for the passport you will use. A nationality list, another country’s residence permit and a package-tour promotion are not automatically the same eligibility route.
Keep application approval, border entry and the permitted activities separate. A tourist visa can support a sightseeing itinerary, but it is not a general permission for work or every religious-travel procedure.
Check eligibility for the actual passport
Use the official eVisa nationality and passport selector and read the applicable conditions. The published terms list permitted countries and provide a process for an adult applying on behalf of a minor. If the standard online route does not apply, use the relevant official visa or Saudi mission route. [3] [2]
Do not assume that living in an eligible country makes an otherwise ineligible passport eligible. If an alternative route uses residence or another visa, establish that specific route through the official service before booking a non-refundable package.
Prepare the passport and application details
The eVisa terms require the passport to have at least six months remaining from entry. They require accurate information and an accessible email account. Use the same passport for the journey and application. [2]
- Check the nationality, passport type, number and expiry.
- Prepare intended travel dates and accommodation contact details.
- Use an email account accessible while traveling.
- Keep each child’s or dependent’s documents with their application.
- Review the current photo and supporting-document instructions in the selected service.
Read the payment and approval conditions
Review the application before submitting or paying. The terms say payment does not guarantee approval and describe non-refundable submitted-application fees. Save the transaction invoice and the approval email, rather than treating a payment confirmation as the visa. [2]
Use the final amount shown in the official payment step to distinguish visa, tax and any policy-related items. A third-party service price may include a separate assistance fee. No fixed current total is quoted here because the actual application route and displayed payment conditions should govern.
Separate validity, entries and allowed stay
The official portal describes the tourist eVisa as a one-year, multiple-entry product allowing a stay of up to 90 days; the terms express a maximum stay of three months and say the specific visa can state different entry conditions. Read the issued document rather than treating its one-year validity as permission to live in Saudi Arabia for a year. [1] [2]
Track arrival, departure and previous visits, and ask the official issuer if the allowance is unclear for repeated entries. Do not assume leaving and returning resets the limit. Check the extension rule for the actual permission before planning a longer stay.
Save the insurance and arrival documents
Keep the visa copy, linked passport, accommodation and onward travel accessible offline. The visa terms identify carrying the visa copy for the first arrival and using the same passport. Admission remains subject to the authorities’ conditions at the border. [2]
Where a visa-linked insurance document is issued, read that policy rather than assuming it covers every travel expense. The Council of Health Insurance separates Tourist, Visitor and other policy categories. Identify your actual insurer, policy and assistance route, then assess any additional trip cover separately. [4]
Tourism and religious permissions are separate checks
The tourism portal describes tourist activities and Umrah excluding Hajj, while excluding other purposes such as study. That description is not a substitute for current religious-travel permits, seasonal restrictions or access requirements for particular places. [1]
- Confirm the correct visa route and approval.
- Read the actual stay and entry conditions.
- Keep passport, visa and policy documents together.
- Check local and site-specific rules for the planned activities.
- Use the relevant official religious-travel process if that is part of the trip.
A sightseeing route through Riyadh, AlUla and Jeddah can be planned without assuming access to every sacred location. Check the destination and purpose before buying a transport ticket that depends on that access.
Build an entry file for each traveler
| Document | Match it against | Keep separately |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | The application and issued visa | A secure copy and expiry reminder |
| Visa approval | Name, passport, permitted entries and stay | The payment receipt, which is not approval |
| Accommodation | Your first arrival date and contact | The rest of the sightseeing plan |
| Insurance document | The named traveler, dates and assistance service | Any additional cancellation or baggage cover |
For a family, make one simple index showing whose approval has arrived and whose application remains pending. Avoid buying a non-refundable activity on the assumption that every application will have the same outcome or processing time. The practical checkpoint is possession of the correct documents for every traveler, not one successful application for the group.
Save copies where they remain accessible without a mobile connection, while protecting passport numbers and other personal details. A shared itinerary can contain hotel and flight information without exposing the whole party's identity documents. If someone else submits an application, make sure you retain access to the official reference, messages and final document.
Resolve these mismatches before departure
A renewed passport is a reason to contact the issuer about the existing visa. Do not assume that matching names make a visa attached to an old passport usable. Likewise, a spelling difference, reversed names or an incorrect passport number should be resolved through the official service rather than explained for the first time at check-in.
If your outbound journey is in one calendar year and your return in the next, read the actual entry and stay dates. The year printed in a promotional description is not a substitute for the validity shown on your permission. Allow room for flight changes without planning to use the last possible day of an uncertain allowance.
For a mixed-nationality couple, use the selector separately for each passport. A spouse's eligibility does not establish the other person's route. For a minor, follow the application instructions for the responsible adult and keep the child's issued permission identifiable rather than assuming it is absorbed into the parent's approval.
The official terms page also contains seasonal language tied to a particular year. Old pilgrimage restriction dates should not be repurposed as this year's calendar. If religious travel forms part of your plans, obtain the current instructions for that purpose and season before committing to the route. [2]
Finally, tell the airline and official issuer about any unresolved document issue before going to the airport. A hotel's reassurance or a tour seller's general advice cannot correct an entry document. Keep the response and revised document with the rest of the arrival file.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Does a one-year visa permit a one-year stay?
No. Validity and permitted stay are different. Read the actual visa’s duration and entry conditions and confirm repeated-visit questions with the official issuer.
Does paying the fee guarantee approval?
The official terms say it does not. Keep the invoice, application reference and actual approval document separate.
Does the tourist visa cover Hajj?
The tourism portal’s description excludes Hajj. Use the current official religious-travel process and place-specific access rules for that purpose.
