Antalya can support a city-and-coast stay without changing hotels every night. The useful distinction is between Antalya city, its different beach areas and the much wider province. An attraction carrying the Antalya name is not automatically a short trip from your room or a sensible addition before a flight.
This guide uses official municipal, airport and museum information checked on 13 October 2026. It offers a three-day core and optional fourth and fifth days, with time for arrival and departure kept separate. Suggested blocks are editorial planning choices; they do not claim a purchased tour, a measured driving time or suitable swimming conditions.
Choose a base before choosing day trips
| Base to compare | Useful priority | Booking question |
|---|---|---|
| Kaleiçi or its immediate surroundings | Historic streets and city meals | Where can a vehicle stop, and how far must you carry bags? |
| Konyaaltı area | Beach time alongside city outings | What is the actual walk to the beach and the city transport stop? |
| A Lara-area hotel | A property-focused beach or resort stay | Which part of Lara, which beach access and which meals are included? |
| A more distant resort in the province | Mostly staying at that resort | What are the complete airport and sightseeing transfer costs? |
Choose the property address, not just the resort label. Ask about the room layout, steps, luggage access and the operating dates of any pool or other facility important to you. A beach pictured in marketing is not confirmation that access, loungers or food are included in your selected rate. Keep the written booking conditions.
For a three-day first visit, one base usually keeps the schedule simpler. If you want both a city stay and a distant coastal town, compare adding nights rather than fitting a hotel move into the middle of three sightseeing days. The time spent checking out, traveling and checking in belongs in the itinerary too.
Handle arrival and the first evening gently
Antalya Airport's transport page distinguishes the Domestic Terminal / Terminal 1 area from Terminal 2. It lists a free inter-terminal shuttle from the Departures areas, currently every 20 minutes, and taxi ranks outside arrivals at all terminals. Check your actual flight terminal and the current airport instructions before deciding where to meet a driver or connect with public transport. [1]
If booking a transfer, supply the flight details and exact accommodation, then confirm waiting arrangements and the agreed drop-off point. A Kaleiçi address may still require a final walk to the entrance. For public transport, use the airport's transport links to check the service, stop and last departure for the day rather than treating every terminal as interchangeable.
Keep the first evening for checking in, eating and a short nearby walk if you have energy. Do not reserve a distant timed activity based only on the scheduled landing time. Baggage, the terminal transfer and finding your accommodation can consume a substantial part of the apparent free afternoon.
For departure, work backward from airline instructions and your confirmed transport. A road estimate is only one part of getting to the correct terminal, checking bags and reaching the gate. Keep a museum or beach stop before the flight optional, and establish luggage arrangements before checking out.
Day one: explore Kaleiçi at walking pace
The municipality's Kaleiçi guide identifies Hadrian's Gate and the historic streets linking the old quarter. One useful route starts near the gate, follows the Hesapçı Sokak area toward Hıdırlık and then adapts to the paths open toward the harbor. The municipal description connects Hesapçı Sokak with Hadrian's Gate and Hıdırlık Tower; it does not guarantee access inside every monument. [2]
Treat the harbor descent and the return climb as choices, especially with a stroller, mobility limitation or midday heat. Stop for lunch before everyone is tired. If you choose a harbor boat outing, make it a separate booking decision with an actual operator, route, duration and weather policy; seeing boats at the quay does not establish a scheduled public service.
For an indoor cultural stop, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism lists the Mevlevihane Museum at the Yivli Minare complex as open daily, currently 08:30–19:00 with the ticket desk closing at 18:30. Its exhibits address Mevlevi culture. Recheck its notice near your visit, and do not assume a regular museum visit includes a performance or special event. [5]
Day two: choose one beach area or a slower city day
The municipality identifies Konyaaltı as a long city beach and distinguishes it from the small Mermerli beach at the Kaleiçi harbor and other beaches across the province. Choose a specific place and access point rather than planning to sample the whole coastline. These locations have different approaches and should not be treated as interchangeable hotel amenities. [3]
For a relaxed day, use one beach area for the morning, have lunch and return when you are ready. Check current flags, instructions and conditions before entering the sea. A tourism description, a previous visitor's photograph or a clear sky does not establish suitable swimming conditions. For children, plan according to their abilities and the actual supervision available.
If wind, rain or your energy makes a beach day unattractive, replace it with a shorter city visit and a long meal, or use a facility your hotel confirms is operating. Do not automatically substitute a boat or canyon outing. Consult the meteorological service's city and marine information for the right area, and follow local restrictions. [8]
Keep the afternoon open if you are making an archaeological outing tomorrow. Preparing water, suitable footwear and pickup details is easier without a late return from another distant place. A holiday with time to rest can still include the experiences that matter most.
Day three: Perge and Aspendos, with scope checks
Perge's official site page lists the archaeological site as open but separately states that the ancient theater is temporarily closed for restoration. Visit for the accessible archaeological remains rather than expecting that theater to be included. The site is in Aksu, east of central Antalya; the ministry describes it as around 17 kilometers from the center, which is a location reference rather than a travel-time promise. [6]
Aspendos is a separate archaeological site at Belkıs in the Serik area. Its ministry page currently lists daily opening, 08:00–19:00, with the ticket desk closing at 18:30. Recheck the date-specific schedule before departure because special events and seasonal changes can affect a visit. It should not be confused with Perge's closed theater. [7]
A combined Perge–Aspendos day can be considered if you arrange the complete transport and want both sites. Ask a tour operator for the exact stops, time allowed at each, pickup zone, admissions, lunch arrangements and cancellation terms. For independent travel, confirm every leg including the return; getting to the nearest town does not establish transport to the archaeological entrance.
Allow a full outing block in your plan rather than promising an exact return time here. These are outdoor archaeological visits with walking and exposure. If heat or mobility makes two sites too much, choose one and spend longer there. Do not add several unrelated waterfalls or distant coastal towns merely because a package lists them.
Extend to four or five days without rushing
| Day | Core plan | Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kaleiçi and one open cultural stop | Shorten the harbor walk or move indoors |
| 2 | One beach area and rest | Local meal and a confirmed indoor option |
| 3 | Perge / Aspendos outing with arranged transport | One site only, or move the outing to a better day |
| 4, if available | A second relaxed city or beach block | Recover the outdoor priority postponed by weather |
| 5, if available | A separately researched excursion or more time at your base | Keep departure logistics protected |
Use the extra days for flexibility before adding distance. If your main interest is historic sites, give the archaeological outing more time. If the trip is primarily a beach break, retain two relaxed days at one base. Travelers who want a much wider Lycian coast route should compare an additional overnight destination rather than returning to Antalya after every long outing.
- Fix arrival and departure logistics and choose one base.
- Check official closure notices before paying for the main cultural visits.
- Arrange the full transport and inclusions for any archaeological excursion.
- Keep a flexible day or half-day for weather, rest or a missed priority.
The final review should be of the route you have actually booked: hotel address, airport terminal, operator pickup point and the specific sites included. A well-paced three-day stay can be more satisfying than a five-day list compressed into three. Keep the longer version only when the extra days are genuinely available.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Is Antalya Museum open now?
The ministry's official page listed Antalya Museum as closed to visitors when checked on 13 October 2026. Wait for an official reopening confirmation before planning a visit; 00:00 placeholder hours are not an opening schedule.
Can I visit Perge's theater?
Perge's official page distinguishes the open archaeological site from its theater, which is temporarily closed for restoration. Aspendos is a different site with its own opening information.
Do I need to change hotels during a three-day Antalya stay?
Usually one suitable city or beach base makes this itinerary simpler. Choose the address according to your priorities and transfer needs. Add a separate overnight stop only when a wider route justifies the time spent moving.
