Korčula Connections: From Hvar or Split, Then On to Dubrovnik
Choose the correct Korčula port, compare a seasonal foot-passenger route with Vela Luka connections and plan an overnight stay before Dubrovnik.

Korčula works well as a stop between central Dalmatia and Dubrovnik when the boat and hotel refer to the same side of the island. The expensive mistake is treating 'Korčula island' as one arrival point, then discovering that your ferry and room are separated by a substantial road transfer.
We checked operator information on 17 October 2026. The timetable example below is the published seasonal schedule, whose page displayed 15 October when retrieved; it is not a live confirmation of today's sailing or a promise of 2027 service. Recheck your exact date before paying.
Choose Korčula town or Vela Luka deliberately
| Arrival | Useful for | Extra planning |
|---|---|---|
| Korčula town foot-passenger quay | An old-town stay and onward coastal catamaran | East or west quay, stairs and the walk to accommodation |
| Vela Luka / Nova Luka port | A western-island stay or a route using that ferry port | Transfer from the new port and, if needed, across the island |
| A hotel elsewhere on the island | A quieter or resort-focused stay | Confirmed road transfer for both arrival and departure |
Do not select a ferry merely because its destination contains the island's name. Open the accommodation map and ask the host which port they mean. If you are staying near Korčula old town, a direct town arrival can simplify a short stay. If you want Vela Luka, a town catamaran on the opposite side may create an unnecessary transfer.
The same distinction matters when leaving. A hotel pickup quoted for Korčula town is not automatically valid for Vela Luka's new port. Put the port name, sailing time and passenger count in the transfer request so the driver can quote the journey you actually need.
Use route 842 as a dated seasonal example
| Published southbound stop | Time in the 2026 example |
|---|---|
| Split departure | 15:10 |
| Hvar departure | 16:45 |
| Korčula arrival / departure | 18:10 / 18:20 |
| Dubrovnik arrival | 20:20 |
For an overnight stay, the important point is the Korčula arrival followed by a new ticket on a later date. Staying aboard for the ten-minute port call is not an island visit. Choose enough nights to have a useful full day, and check the next sailing before confirming the room.
Published regular one-way fares were €33 from Split to Korčula, €27.50 from Hvar to Korčula and €27.50 from Korčula to Dubrovnik. That makes the two-ticket transport total €60.50 from Split via an overnight Korčula stop, or €55 from Hvar, before accommodation and transfers. These are calculations from the listed regular fares, not resident concessions or a guaranteed checkout quote. [1]
A seasonal route's end date matters as much as its departure time. Do not extend this schedule into November or the next year. If your date falls outside the published period, search the actual date and compare another confirmed connection rather than assuming the same daily boat continues.
Confirm the quay and make arrival day easy
TP Line's boarding information identifies Korčula's east port as the usual location, with the west port used in bad weather. It also identifies Dubrovnik's departure area as Gruž, not the old-town waterfront, and asks passengers to be ready at least 15 minutes before departure. Follow the current notice and ticket instructions if they require an earlier arrival. [3]
Save both the host's meeting pin and the operator's boarding map. A ticket office, port label and exact vessel berth can be different places. Ask the host how you should contact them if the boat uses the alternative quay, and whether they can meet you with luggage or simply provide walking directions.
Keep the first evening modest: check in, find dinner and understand the route back to the waterfront. An 18:10 scheduled arrival does not mean you will be inside your room at 18:15. Allow for disembarkation, locating the host, steps and any transfer. Avoid a tightly timed prepaid activity immediately after arrival.
Book the overnight stay around access and your next boat
For a short stay focused on Korčula town, prioritize a manageable walk from the quay and a clear luggage plan. A room inside the old town can be appealing, but stairs and pedestrian streets affect arrival. Ask about the actual floor, lift availability and the final approach instead of relying on a broad 'central' description.
Two nights provide one full day between arrival and departure. Use that day for the town or a separately planned outing, leaving the travel days light. With one night, you may spend much of the visit checking in and out; that can still work if your goal is a brief evening stop, but it deserves a different expectation.
If choosing Lumbarda or another base, confirm the last useful return and the early departure transfer. Compare the room saving with two port transfers and the time they consume. A waterfront room elsewhere on the island is not necessarily a convenient base for a short town-and-ferry itinerary.
Ask about luggage storage after checkout, especially if the onward boat is in the evening. Keep medication, valuables and departure documents with you. Establish when someone will be available to release stored bags so a flexible sightseeing afternoon does not become a race back to an unattended property.
Understand the foot-passenger ticket and luggage conditions
TP Line's FAQ describes its catamarans as foot-passenger services without cars or bicycles and includes up to 20 kg of luggage per passenger. Extra baggage depends on capacity and the operator's conditions; arrange it in advance. Do not assume a vehicle ferry allowance or an airline cabin-bag rule applies to this service. [2]
If you have a rental car, select a vehicle-carrying route and verify the rental contract's ferry permission. A passenger ticket to Korčula town does not transport the car. Consider whether you need the vehicle for the island stay at all, accounting for parking and the different port connection rather than simply comparing the ferry fare.
Keep essentials in a compact bag you can carry to your seat. Label larger luggage and allow time to retrieve it after docking. For mobility needs or a stroller, ask the operator about the actual boarding arrangement for the vessel and port; a general accessibility label does not explain a particular gangway.
Use Vela Luka only with the road connection planned
Jadrolinija's route 604 serves Split, Vela Luka and Ubli. Its dated notice for 18 October 2026 changed the Split departure to 18:00 instead of 17:00 and the Vela Luka–Ubli departure to 21:00 instead of 20:15. This specific change illustrates why the current notice must be read alongside a seasonal timetable. It is not the timetable for every day. [4]
Arriva advertises year-round Vela Luka–Korčula bus travel of roughly an hour, depending on the departure. Its local Vela Luka information also distinguishes the Nova Luka passenger port from the town center. A bus between the two towns does not by itself confirm a connection from your ferry's berth or arrival time. [5] [6]
- Identify the exact ferry arrival port and time for your date.
- Check how to reach the cross-island bus stop from that port.
- Allow time to disembark, retrieve bags and make the transfer.
- Confirm a private transfer or an overnight alternative if the bus does not connect.
Do not treat Vela Luka as an instant weather fallback for a cancelled Korčula town catamaran. The alternative ferry, road transfer and hotel arrival all need to work, and the weather can affect more than one service. Recalculate the whole chain before buying a replacement ticket.
Protect the onward Dubrovnik journey
TP Line states that an operator-cancelled sailing is refundable in full through the appropriate sales channel. Its voluntary-cancellation rule generally returns 90% when requested at least six hours ahead, subject to the ticket conditions. A hotel, transfer or flight on another booking is a separate contract. Read the actual seller's procedure before cancelling. [2]
For an international flight from Dubrovnik, consider staying on the mainland the previous night. The catamaran arrives at Gruž, after which you still need the airport journey and airline check-in margin. A ferry's scheduled arrival should not be treated as the moment you are ready at the airport.
Check the operator's notice on the evening before travel and again before leaving the accommodation. Keep the host informed if the quay or departure changes. If a cancellation disrupts the plan, secure a workable overnight stay before assuming that an expensive last-minute transfer will solve every part of the journey.
BEFORE YOU GO
Common questions
Is Vela Luka the same arrival point as Korčula old town?
No. They are different ports on the island. A Vela Luka arrival requires a separate road connection if your accommodation is near Korčula town. Confirm the new-port transfer as well as the cross-island leg. [5] [6]
Does the published Split–Hvar–Korčula–Dubrovnik schedule run all year?
The verified route 842 schedule covers 1 April–31 October 2026. Do not extrapolate it into winter or another year. Search the exact date and check current operator notices. [1]
Can I bring a car on the TP Line catamaran?
No. The verified TP Line conditions are for foot passengers. For a car, choose a vehicle-carrying route and separately check rental permission, vehicle space and the onward road journey. [2]
